CWIG: BAT Bank Unlicensed, If OJK Doesn’t Act, OJK Head Should Resign

Jakarta, Tintanusantara.co.id — Cerdas Waspada Investasi Global (CWIG) has formally stated that PT BAT Instrumen Bank Internasional (BAT Bank) is not licensed and not registered with Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) nor with Bank Indonesia (BI).

This statement is based on official written responses from BI and OJK addressed directly to CWIG, which confirm that BAT Bank is not a licensed financial institution and is not under the supervision of any Indonesian financial authority.

CWIG Chairman Henry Hosang warned that this situation poses a serious public risk, particularly in light of various claims displayed on the website batbank.co.id, which suggest alleged recognition by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, support from Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance, and purported management of state-linked assets valued in trillions of US dollars.

“Based on official letters issued by BI and OJK, the legal status is clear: BAT Bank is not licensed in Indonesia. Therefore, any claims of state recognition or endorsement presented on their website should reasonably be questioned and may mislead the public,” said Henry Hosang.

CWIG Calls on OJK to Publicly Announce BAT Bank via Satgas PASTI

CWIG openly urges the OJK to immediately publicly announce BAT Bank through Satgas PASTI (Indonesia’s Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities), given its unlicensed status while actively promoting itself as a “bank”.

“Satgas PASTI exists to protect the public. If an entity is clearly unlicensed, unregistered, and yet openly presents itself as a bank, what more is being waited for? OJK must not remain silent,” Henry stated.

According to CWIG, regulatory inaction risks:

Exposing the public to further potential harm

Creating the impression of state tolerance or neglect

Undermining the preventive function of Satgas PASTI

Eroding public trust in financial supervision

“The public has a right to be informed. Regulatory silence creates space for illegal financial schemes to survive,” he added.

CWIG: If OJK Is Unable to Act, Its Leadership Should Step Down

Henry Hosang further delivered a firm institutional criticism, stating that if OJK is unable or unwilling to act decisively, its leadership should consider stepping down.

“If OJK cannot protect the public from an unlicensed entity openly claiming to operate as a bank, then the head of OJK should step aside. Indonesia has many capable, competent, and courageous officials who are willing to act decisively,” Henry said.

CWIG emphasized that this statement constitutes institutional criticism, not a personal attack, and is aimed at ensuring that financial oversight functions effectively and in the public interest.

Post–Holiday Action: Reports to the Attorney General and National Police

CWIG confirmed that following the Christmas and New Year holidays, it will formally submit reports to:

The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia, and

The Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri)

The reports will include official correspondence from BI and OJK, documentation of BAT Bank’s website claims and promotional materials, and preliminary legal analysis for law enforcement review concerning potential violations related to banking regulations, public misrepresentation, and matters requiring further assessment by authorities, including possible applicability of cyber law and anti–money laundering frameworks, as well as the unauthorized use of the President’s name and state institutions.

“This is not merely public pressure. This is a formal legal step to ensure the state intervenes before the damage becomes more extensive,” Henry stated.

CWIG Requests Immediate Blocking of batbank.co.id

In parallel with legal action, CWIG has called on Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to immediately block the website batbank.co.id, which CWIG considers to contain misleading content, questionable claims, and references to state authority by an unlicensed entity.

“Websites promoting misleading financial claims under the name of the state should not be allowed to remain accessible. Komdigi must act swiftly,” Henry said.

The State Must Not Be Used as a Commercial Shield

CWIG concluded by stressing that the name of the President, state institutions, and Indonesia’s sovereignty must never be exploited as marketing tools by unlicensed private financial entities.

“This is about the dignity of the state. The President’s name is not a commercial shield, and Indonesia is not a commodity to be sold through false financial narratives,” Henry Hosang concluded.
